Sketching 1 is a small, friendly supportive group which meets on the first Thursday of the month from 2-4.30 pm.

Meetings are held at a variety of venues chosen and organised by members, preferably with refreshments and loos nearby.  We sketch for about an hour and a half, and then meet up again for refreshments, discussion and optional sharing of images.  Over the winter months we occasionally meet in a member’s home or at another indoor venue and concentrate on a relevant sketching topic or sharing of ideas.

During the summer months, some of our monthly meetings have the option of sketching all day and we also try to arrange a few “ad hoc” meetings, which might be on other days of the week, depending on the weather.  There may be other optional activities throughout the year.

Members of the group have a wide range of experience and those who have been sketching for some time are always willing to help those just starting out.   Although no formal tuition is provided, we have found that we have all benefited from the process of sketching together and discussing our work.  We also have a small collection of sketching books and a resource file which can be borrowed at any time.  All you need to get started is some paper and a pencil, though you may wish to progress to using pens and paints, as many of our members do.
