u3a stands for University of the Third Age, which is a self-help organisation for older people no longer in full-time employment. You don’t need formal qualifications and there are no exams.

FEBRUARY MEETING - SUNBEAMS TRUST - Annie Mawson
2.15 pm Thursday 19th February at Penrith Rugby Club
Annie Mawson is a name synonymous with The Sunbeams. She set up this group to engage with a wide variety of individuals who might benefit from the healing power of music.either by listening to, or, more often, by participating in music.

MARCH MEETING - BEATRIX POTTER, 1864 to 1943 -
Faye Morrisey
2.15 pm Thursday 19th March at Penrith Rugby Club
Faye Morrisey is the Manager and Curator of The Armitt, a museum and library in Ambleside that holds collections related to Beatrix Potter, the well-known author and illustrator of the Peter Rabbit series who was also an accomplished mycologist and a conservationist.

APRIL MEETING - CHILDREN’S LITERATURE - David Milner
2.15 pm Thursday 16th April at Penrith Rugby Club
David Milner was a local Methodist minister who became the District Superintendent. Still living in Penrith, he is now retired and able to pursue his personal interests and enthusiasms.

Another Successful Open Day and Coffee Morning
Thursday 27th November might have started out with rain, but luckily by opening time, this had eased off and the overcast day didn’t seem to deter visitors or members. Over the course of the morning we had 38 non-members who attended, together with nearly 60 members. 18 of our visitors signed up to join PNLu3a, with others taking home application forms and other information.

Our activities include:
Special Interest Groups are led by volunteers and cater for a variety of educational, cultural and recreational interests. The Groups all have their own identity and operate in different ways, some meeting in members’ homes, others in hired rooms.

The Monthly Meetings give people the opportunity to get to know each other and discuss which special interest groups are running or planned.

There is an annual membership fee, currently £13, which is fixed at the Annual General Meeting. Members also receive the national magazine which is published quarterly.
If you are interested in sharing knowledge and experiences, developing your own capabilities by learning with others then the U3A is for you.
