Next Walk:-
Hi All
Our next walk will be next Tuesday — 17th February —, a bus walk to Carlisle. Why Tuesday? Next Thursday (19th) is the monthly meeting which I avoid and the following Thursday (26th) I am going to the dentist.
We will meet at 9.55 at Penrith Bus Station to catch the 10.02 Carlisle Bus to Botchergate/Railway Station. The route is an amble through the town with a chance to see the new look city centre to West Tower Street. Then under Castle Way into Bitts Park to walk beside the Eden, the Caldew and the Railway line. Under Castle Way again, past the Cursing Stone, around the Cathedral to the Cathedral Café for lunch. Distance 4.62km (2.87 miles), total ascent 25m. The U3A has a no dogs rule. As regards the pace of the walk, although we are a short walk group we are not a slow walk group, but the pace will be leisurely and there’s plenty to look at.
If you are coming please reply to this email by Monday in case I need to give the café notice. The forecast for Tuesday in Carlisle as of today is now very sunny and cold. Fine Winter weather.
David

Extract from the Convenor’s Handbook
Members of U3A participate at their own risk.
• Walkers/members should be confident that the proposed route is well within their physical capabilities — even if the weather deteriorates.
• Walkers/members should be properly equipped, with suitable footwear, waterproofs and a picnic. A hot drink is a good idea in winter.
• The route will have been researched by the leader, but changes may need to be made on the day if weather conditions change.
No one in the group has been trained as a leader or in first aid. In an emergency, help will be given to the best abilities of fellow members. Members should consider carrying a first aid kit for their own use.
