The next outing of the u3a Bus Pass Adventure Group will be back to the Lake District but this time to Grasmere or, if you prefer, Ambleside.

We will catch the 9.45 X5 bus from Penrith bus station for Keswick where we will change on to the 555 bus to Grasmere and Ambleside.

Proposed timetable:

Penrith dep                 09.45

Keswick arr                 10.30

Keswick dep                11.00

Grasmere arr              11.28

Ambleside arr             11.45

If getting on at Penrith bus station please be there at least 10 minutes before the bus departure time.  Alternatively, if it is more convenient you are welcome to catch the bus anywhere en-route to Keswick.  If you intend to do this, please LET US KNOW.

At Keswick bus station the X5 comes in at stand 1 and the 555 goes out from stand 2 and we have plenty of time so members should be able to make use of the facilities at Booths supermarket eg toilets, coffee, etc.

Members are free to do what they want in Grasmere and/or Ambleside however below are some possibilities:

OPTION 1:  Visit Dove Cottage and/or Allen Bank in Grasmere.

OPTION 2:  Visit the Armitt Museum in Ambleside.

OPTION 3:  There are innumerable walking opportunities in this locality.  One is from Ambleside to Grasmere or vice versa. The most popular route is via Loughrigg Terrace and this is a little under five miles but could be shortened by stopping or starting in Rydal.  If interested in doing a walk please LET ME KNOW.

There are many cafes in Ambleside and Grasmere.  Alternatively, you could take a packed lunch especially if you are planning on going on a walk.

Buses back from Ambleside are at xx.22 and xx.52 from Kelsick Road and xx.09 and xx.39 from Grasmere and the buses from Keswick are every half hour.

PLEASE EMAIL DrKeithWalton@aol.com  IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN COMING ON THIS OUTING OR IF YOU WOULD LIKE MORE INFORMATION.
